This year the Palouse Chapter will again be partnering with WSU Center for Civic Engagement during Civic Engagement Week to help out in the community while working beside and networking with current students. This year we will also be participating in two different projects giving our members a choice of dates as well as types of service.
On Monday, April 17th we will be working with multiple projects with Senior Chores. Pullman Senior Chores assists senior citizens with household and outdoor chores. Typically we assist with outdoor work such as raking, trimming bushes, weeding, planting flowers, snow removal, put-up/take down of holiday lights, etc. They are currently gathering a list of chores from local senior citizens so we can go from house to house tackling outdoor tasks. It will be important for the volunteers to bring water, wear close toed shoes and dress for the weather. All of the chores that we will be assisting with will be outdoor chores. For the Senior Chores project, the alumni will need to send the following information to Kristina Umbright at firstname.lastname@example.org
- Complete the volunteer application
- Sign the last page of the volunteer handbook
- Give Kristina their name, phone number, and date of birth to process the background check
**Click on the above links to download the handbook and application, then either fill them out on the computer, or by hand, and email the completed forms, along with your name, phone number, and date of birth to email@example.com
. After your information is received, you will be contacted with the specific location to help out senior citizens. **
The second volunteer opportunity will be Wednesday, April 19th from 5-7 PM working in the Community Garden plots at Koppel Farms. The farm is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization committed to building a sense of community through preservation and enhancement of natural, agricultural and cultural heritage in Pullman and the Palouse. It will be important for the volunteers to bring water, wear close toed shoes and dress for the weather. All of the tasks that we will be assisting with will be in the gardens. Kopple Farms is located at SE Derby St. Pullman, WA 99163.
These are both great volunteer opportunities, and we hope to see you all there!
