WSURA New Retirees

You’re Important to Us!
Washington State University’s retirees are an important part of the WSU community.  We want to stay in touch with you and keep you informed about the programs and services available to our retirees.  This brochure provides an introduction.

WSU Retirees Association
Since its inception, the WSU Retiree Association (WSURA) has provided WSU retirees with the means to maintain contact with friends and colleagues, stay abreast of opportunities, and to address problems of mutual concern.  In addition, it facilitates retiree faculty and staff relations with other elements of the WSU family and with other university retiree associations.

The WSURA offers free membership to new WSU retirees for their first full year of retirement.  Memberships run from July 1 through June 30.  Membership in the WSURA entitles you to receive our newsletter published three times annually, invitations to the monthly programs held at the Senior Center in Pullman and an invitation to our signature event, the annual Spring Brunch.  Membership is open to all WSU retirees, widows, widowers of faculty and staff, and others interested to join its ranks.

In addition, the WSURA offers four $1000 scholarships to legacies of WSU retirees with the primary focus of the award being leadership and legacy.  Leadership may be demonstrated through traditional school activities, work responsibilities, community involvement, church-related activities, and family commitments.  Legacy is defined as a child or grandchild of a WSU retiree.

You may contact the Association by writing:

WSU Alumni Association
Congratulations on your retirement.  The WSU Alumni Association (WSUAA) offers to all WSU retirees the opportunity to become a member of the WSUAA at a special discounted rate.  Thousands of Cougars and friends have declared their Cougar Pride, supported the university, and received special money-saving discounts by joining the WSUAA.  Become a member today by calling 509-335-2586 or visiting us at the Lewis Alumni Centre.  The WSUAA is proud to support the WSU Retirees Association.

Help Preserve WSU’s History
Either immediately before or after beginning your retirement, you will probably decide to reduce the accumulation of personal files and records in your office.  University Archives is interested in acquiring materials that reflect the history of the University and the activities of its faculty and staff.  Personal and professional papers, including correspondence, photographs, films, teaching syllabi, etc., can be valuable additions to the historical record.  Before disposing of your records, you are urged to contact the office of Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections (MASC) at 509-335-6691 to discuss the appraisal of your papers and their ultimate disposition.  For more information, please visit the MASC website at http://www.wsulibs.wsu.edu/masc.

Benefit Services
Personnel in the Benefit Services Office are available to confer with you about financial planning, retirement income options, health insurance coverage, and related issues.  Please notify us if your address changes, so our records will be accurate.  For more information, please visit the HRS Retirement Information webpage at http://www.hrs.wsu.edu/Retirement%20Information.
